Grand Canyon Helicopters – The Ultimate Way to See the National Park from Las Vegas
February 28, 2019
If you’re interested in Grand Canyon helicopters that fly out of Vegas, I recommend taking one of the air-only versions if you’re short on time. These fly over the highlights of the canyon, but don’t land, so they cost less and don’t take a lot of time. After taking off, they fly over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Grand Cliffs Wash, the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon Skywalk (the “Glass Bridge”) before turning back.
Although the tour operators refer to the air-only tours as basic tours, they are far from lacking in adventure. They are a great value, a lot of fun, and definitely worth the experience when you’re in Vegas.
The tour helicopters that fly to the Grand Canyon leave right from the Vegas Strip and from Boulder City, Nevada which is a quick 30 minute shuttle ride from Vegas. If you are staying in a Las Vegas casino hotel, then taking a tour that takes off from the Strip is very convenient. It will only take you about ten minutes to get there from your hotel. The tour operator arranges all your transportation needs and will even send a limo to pick you up for the tour. Like I said – how cool is that?
However, riding to your helicopter in a limo is certainly a very nice touch. It is the perfect addition to an anniversary, birthday celebration, or other special occasion. It would feel so much more special to be picked up by a limousine than by an ordinary van, to me at least.
Even though the Strip departures cost more, they almost always sell out. That’s why you don’t want to wait to buy your tour. Try to get your seats one or two weeks in advance if you can. Buying your tickets well in advance will also pay off in the form of a lower price (like airline tickets that are booked only a day or two ahead, last-minute helicopter tickets come with a big premium).
No matter which departure point you choose, you’ll fly in an EcoStar 130 helicopter. You always want to tour in one of these because they are bigger and more comfortable than traditional choppers. These choppers have stadium-style seats that face forward and huge wraparound windows that offer spectacular views.
Las Vegas air tours can be deluxe (Strip takeoff and limo) or basic (Boulder City takeoff and shuttle van). Other than that, the tours are identical. They are both quick air-only tours on EcoStar 130 sightseeing choppers that offer fantastic views. Don’t forget to book your tour early for the best selection and price. Seats on these tours fill up quickly and the tours will be sold out if you delay.
